GOAL Requirements to Meet Goal Considerations for Goal

Have a school playground
  • Ease of supervision during recess
  • Minimize mischievous behavior options (e.g. rocks that can be thrown, muddy areas, etc.)
  • Areas geared towards 5-12 year olds.
  • Large enough to accommodate school enrollment.
  • Include kid input to events, layout, and construction.
  • Have a playground that allows explorative and discovery play.
  • Meet safety guidelines outlined by the district.
  • Have events that can be incorporated into the school curriculum.
  • Have an outside classroom area/amphitheater.

Have a community park
  • Provide picnic tables, benches, easy access.
  • Areas geared towards all ages (e.g. tot lot, 5-12 year olds, 12+ year olds)
  • Large enough to accommodate birthday parties, family gatherings, etc.
  • Keep and incorporate existing trees.
  • Provide portable bathroom facilities.
  • Community involvement.
  • Make the park/structure unique to Corvallis.
  • Have a playground that allows both supervised and un-supervised explorative and discovery play.
  • Meet applicable safety guidelines.
  • Provide drinking fountain.
  • Incorporate features that combine with field activities (such as bleachers or seats that face the field for watching soccer games.)
  • New landscaping.
  • Permanent bathroom facilities.
  • Provide lighting for after-hours events.
  • Provide lighting for security.

Provide a long-lasting and minimal maintenance structure
  • Utilize materials and equipment that provide the longest life span and require minimal maintenance.
  • Develop a detailed maintenance plan (structure and landscaping).
  • Work with the City and District to verify that they adopt and will support the maintenance plan.
  • Develop a foundation to provide funds for the maintenance items as outlined in the plan.
