Wildcat Park Design Day

On December 19th Dennis Will, a designer from Leathers Associates, original architects for Corvallis’ famous Wildcat Park, will be in Corvallis to meet with Wilson School students, teachers and Steering Committee members to design a new and improved Wildcat Park.

The plan is for Will to meet with the students from each grade in shifts starting at 9:00 A.M. From 11:00 to 5:00 P.M. he will work on his drawings, meet with teachers and members of the Steering Committee. Then at 7:00 P.M. a Design Day Community Celebration will take place in the Wilson School Gym.

The entire community is invited to the celebration which will feature songs from Wilson School students and snacks along with an opportunity to view the design and offer comments or ask questions of Mr. Will.

The original Wildcat Park was created 17 years ago after a similar design process. After just five days of volunteer labor using donated materials and borrowed tools the playground structure was completed. Earlier this year the park was closed after the Corvallis school district deemed it to be unsafe. Children from all over Corvallis and as far away as Albany, Salem and beyond were devastated to lose their favorite park and soon a steering committee was formed to raise money to re-build.

The group is well on their way to raising the money needed to build a new park and a building week and grand opening is planned for the spring of 2007.

Volunteers are needed to join subcommittees and to help with fundraising. Visit our website at www.newwildcatpark.org to sign up or for more information on the re-building of Wildcat Park.
